I have started to write my testimonial five times now and each time I have another level of appreciation to add. I have now decided that I must get something in print to share with others who are looking for a reliable source to adopt a pug. It has been a remarkable and unique experience working with the Walk The Line family. They have been an invaluable resource in all things “Pug” – a wealth of information and knowledge that they so patiently and generously shared well before there was even a commitment to purchase a pug. I began my conversation with WTL looking for a healthy companion for my “rescue” pug who has many challenges. My little guy is riddled with all of the traits so typical in the majority of pugs who are bred indiscriminately. I am so excited that I have found a breeder who is solely focused on passing on only the positive attributes to this incredible breed of dog. Because of my experience and relationship with Walk The Line, I will most likely adopt two new Pugs!

Walk The Line Pug Ranch, began as a life long passion of one individuals love for animals, that has blossomed into a private families generational endeavor… Since its founding in the year 2000, this passion project has evolved into a distinguished conscientious practice of purebred Pug breeding…

…..The foundation of Walk The Line is steeped in the story of DragonMaster, our retired founder and heart behind the Pug Dedicated Family… Formerly the owner of a private New York State corporation for over 30 years, DragonMaster was thrust into early retirement due to health challenges… This unexpected transition became a gateway to rediscover his life’s calling: devoting himself full-time to Animals, in particular the study of Veterinary Science, Canine Health Care, Animal DNA Research—especially within the Purebred Pug lineage, and Horse Breeding…

 …In 2001, DragonMaster, during a personal healing journey while re-visiting South East Asia, DragonMaster rekindled ties with his long-time friend, Sheng Li, a respected animal and rice farmer, whom has an Dongwu Dami Nonchang along the Minjiang River in Sichuan Province, China… Their friendship, which dates back to 1976, led DragonMaster to reconnect not only with the Ancient Chinese roots of Pug breeding, but also once again be amongst Sheng Li’s Pugs, as they exist in a habitat similar to that in Ancient Chinese Culture with the ancient traditions that had long inspired him… DragonMaster’s Chinese friends raise Pugs that carry Ancient Chinese bloodlines, for the purpose of adopting them to the more affluent Chinese families, as Companion Lap Dogs, reflecting centuries-old customs…

🐾 It was in this sacred setting that DragonMaster adopted two Pugs, forever woven into the fabric of the Walk The Line family’s legacy:

  • King Rock Agamemnon — an apricot fawn male Pug

…During the early days of raising that first litter, intensive research was undertaken to understand the complexities of responsible breeding… DragonMaster uncovered a sobering reality: the Pug breed in the United States had been suffering under the weight of widespread irresponsible “mutt breeding”—often driven by profit rather than preservation… The genetic and physiological integrity of the Original Ancient Chinese Purebred Pug was deteriorating…

…This revelation ignited a resolute commitment: to dedicate his efforts to restoring the health, heritage, and vitality of the Purebred Pug… What started as a hobby began to take on the weight of a mission—a mission driven not only by intellectual pursuit but by emotional fulfillment and a sense of stewardship…

🎓 From Hobbyist to Heritage Steward: DragonMaster’s Academic and Practical Dedication

…..Soon realizing that it was something that had a great emotional reward and also recognizing the profound responsibility and potential life-or-death consequences of conscientious breeding, DragonMaster immersed himself in formal education… He studied Veterinary Medicine, Canine Anatomy & DNA as a technical assistant through St Petersburg College and Penn Foster University, gaining the scientific foundation necessary for ethical breeding and long-term genetic wellness…

…This process unfolded gradually and meticulously… As his vision expanded, DragonMaster invited retired relatives and high school-aged family members to assist—forming a close-knit circle of volunteers devoted to daily Pug care, health management, and ongoing research… All breeding decisions were made with the utmost discernment, ensuring that only the most genetically sound dogs became part of the Walk The Line lineage…

🧬 The Development of the Walk The Line Breeding Method: Science, Soul, and Heritage

…..Even while continuing to manage his corporate responsibilities, DragonMaster prioritized his mission to safeguard and revive the Ancient Chinese Purebred Pug through continued research, while also practicing Pug Health Care and Hobby Breeding… With support from his lifelong friend Sheng Li—a seasoned breeder in Sichuan Province—the two began developing what would become a hallmark of the Walk The Line program: a proprietary “Ancient Chinese Lineage-Based Pug Breeding Method”…

…They concluded that for this method to yield generations of proven exceptionally healthy Pugs, the foundation must be laid with four genetically distinct, exceptionally healthy Purebred Pug bloodlines… After working with several Northeastern US Pug Breeders, discussing their experience, their Pugs various Heritages, their AKC Pedigrees, etc., finally the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th WTL proven to be genetically healthy Pure Breed Pug bloodlines were decided, creating the four total bloodlines that were necessary to begin the planned “Breeding Method”…

These were:

  • 🧱 Two distinct Black AKC-certified distinct Purebred bloodlines from reputable Upstate NY Pug Breeders
  • ❄️ One White AKC-certified distinct Purebred bloodline from a reputable Ohio Pug Breeder

…..This convergence formed the cornerstone of a strategic combination of third, fourth, and fifth-generation “Line Breeding Method” with a highly selective mix of an “Outcrossed Breeding Method” between our Chinese & Three American Pug bloodlines… The process emphasizes:
