The Pug Breed according to Ancient History, was quite undoubtedly originated in Ancient China and was first known documented during the Shang Dynasty 1751 to III I B.C.
Pugs were accompanied by their Ancestors, the Pekinese and the Lion Dog… The Pug Breeds virgin post is said to have been made by the first dog judge, or “Chancien” in 11 15 B.C. The “Chancien” judged Breed type, quality and characteristics of the different dogs…
It is said that Pugs (which still had a long full snoot & weighed up to 40-50 pounds) during this period, were recognized & used primarily as hunting dogs which were also only afforded to Royalty. The more modern version of the Pug with the (short snoot/mouth or Brachy Cephalic Head), were not posted until sometime in (600 B. C.) and then the Breed began to develop their desire as more of a lap dog of Royalty instead of a hunting dog, etc. etc., etc…
